New collection at OBJECT

The new STUCCO tableware collection will be launched during OBJECT Rotterdam. In continuation of my recycling research, I designed a new tableware collection made of 100% recycled porcelain. The name STUCCO comes from the series of wall tiles I created in 2022, inspired by plasterwork techniques.

When mixing different colours of leftovers and trimmings I always end up with a grey slip. Due to variations each batch has a slightly different hue. The reclaimed slip is too thick for regular casting, so I experimented with new ways to apply it in the mold. By applying it manually, layer by layer, it creates the most unique patterns and textures. This tactile tableware just begs to be held!

For this holiday season we have collaborated with other designers and makers from Utrecht. Are you looking for an original gift? Look no further! We created special giftboxes with the sweetest treats. Like a set of a large OPGEROLD cup with a bag of Classic Chai Latte by Dem Good Chai. A delicious spice mix to mix with (vegetable) milk.

Or what about a set of two OPGEROLD mini cups with poured candles from Brandt kaarsen? You'll get two different scents: Clove+Cedar and Wild Tobacco. Once the candles are all burned up, you can use the porcelain as espresso cups!

Dutch Design Week 2022

From 22 till 30 October I will be showing my new STUCCO collection in Eindhoven during DDW. While exploring new ways to recycle porcelain waste, I created a collection of vases and wall objects, inspired by stucco techniques. Every type of production creates waste. With slipcasting I create “trimmings”; the residue from cutting the edges. With this project I am cleaning up my own mess, trying to become a zero-waste company.

In 2012 I graduated with a collection called Porcelain+. I created new colours and textures by mixing different metals and recycled glass through porcelain slip. The trimmings weren’t suitable for recycling into new slip because the oxides affected the behaviour of the clay. I decided to save the trimmings for later.

RIBBEL collection for Saudade Collective

Blog Post with Image

During the lockdown in 2020 I started collaborating with Saudade Collective. This new initiative is all about sustainable and fair design, by working together closely with craftsmen and women. I am one of the lucky few that got to design a new collection of porcelain planters and vases for this label!

The RIBBEL collection is now available online and in few stores in NL! Do you want to see the pieces before buying? Make an appointment to visit my studio in Utrecht or the office of Saudade Collective in Emmen.
